William D. Barclay, I place my hands upon your head and give unto a Patriarchal Blessing. Thou art of the lineage of Joseph, that was sold into Egypt, and in as much as you desire a Patriarchal Blessing, it will be a help and a benefit unto you in times of need in as much as you desire and keep the commandments, you will grow and increase in knowledge, and become far in advance of your friends and relatives, who refuse to accept the Gospel. Your friends and neighbors will honor you, for the knowledge you have. You will be permitted to speak in power and convert a number of your friends and relatives. Every good gift is yours that belongs to the faithful and is within your reach. The gift of prophecy, talking in tongues, and the interpretation, the discerning of good and evil spirits. Listen to the small whisperings of the spirit of the Lord, and it will guide you into all truth and assist you in times of need. You will be surprised at the many blessings that are in store for you. Now dear brother keep the faith, honor your wife and you will never be sorry for the step that you have taken. You will grow in knowledge and power among your own people and relatives, many people will rise up and call you blessed, for that which you have taught them. You will grow and become honored instrument in the hands of the Lord, in converting many people. You will be greatly honored and become a credit and honor to your people and to the church you are a member of. You will be blessed financially and shall not want for anything. I bless you with every blessing that will be for you good and advancement. If the Evil one ever has power over you or discouragement comes to you, read this blessing and it will put you on the right track, having authority, I promise this blessing upon you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Patriarchal Blessing given by Patriarch Henry Catmull upon the head of William Douglas Barclay, son of James Barclay and Janet Sharpe born 20th December 1888 (sic) [1887] at Greenock, Scotland.
Brother William Douglas Barclay by the authority of the Holy Priesthood I bear, I place my hands upon your head, according to your desires, and give you a Patriarchal Blessing. I seal upon your head all former Blessings which have been pronounced thereon, along with those of thy forefathers, Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, Joseph and Ephriam of whose lineage thou art. Your forefathers thru disobedience where scattered among the nation thru the decree of a just God. But that God with abundance of love and mercy has outstretched His arm and gathered you in unto the land of your inheritance. That you may walk in His paths, and live more fully to His laws and commandments and receive the Blessings of the house of God. All of which the world know not of and will never enjoy, until they yield obedience to the will of God. Now, dear brother be joyful, sing the song of gladness and praises, to your Heavenly Father who has saw fit to rescue you from the world. Fear not but put your trust in the Lord, and let your heart go out in praise and supplication to him and you shall be granted every righteous desire of your heart, for the Lord will open the way and cause every obstacle to be removed. They may be in the way of your progress but light which will give you hope and be comforting to your soul and to the knowledge and information you desire will come to you from sources unexpected at this time, for the Lord knows the intent and desire of your heart and will bless you and inspire you accordingly. The spirit of the Holy Ghost will enlighten your mind and open up your understanding so the way shall be made clear and the mist and perplexities shall be removed from your mind and sight. Pray in faith, believing I bless you in body that you may live to accomplish this work according to your desires and become a Savior to your dead kindred of your father’s house. Light will come to you through dreams and you will be enabled yet accomplish the work you desire. I bless you with the strength and power to overcome all of the infirmities the flesh and weakness which man is heir too, and all evil powers of an adverse nature that may be kind to discourage you, who say unto you “give it up, what’s the use”? Be not discouraged for you shall triumph over the powers of darkness thru the Holy Priesthood, which you bear and be a blessing unto many. You shall live to accomplish much good in Zion and if it is the Lords will even to go abroad in order that His purposes may be fulfilled and He will be with you and bear you off victorious over your enemies. I seal you up against the destroyer that he may pass you by, and when your work on earth is complete you shall go to enjoy the reward of the just, among your kindred and friends the seed of Abraham. Be active at all times in the service of the Lord. Be kind and just and faithful, this I do thru your obedience to the all commandments of your Heavenly Father. In the name of Jesus Christ.
